What Is the Supporting Process Group?

The version 3.1 of Automotive SPICE® includes 32 processes, which are represented in the process reference model. The processes are divided into 8 groups. In this course processes from the Supporting Process Group (SUP) are covered. The Supporting Process Group includes 7 processes, namely Quality Assurance (SUP.1), Verification (SUP.2), Joint Review (SUP.4), Documentation (SUP.7), Configuration Management (SUP.8), Problem Resolution Management (SUP.9) and Change Request Management (SUP.10).

Why Is the Supporting Process Group Needed?

All ASPICE processes are designed to allow a structured and therefore effective work, by defining all relevant processes within development projects. The Automotive SPICE standard is required by customers for good reasons. This applies not only for the system and software development processes, but also for the supporting which have a high potential to support project success.

How Is the Supporting Process Group Related to Embedded Systems?

When developing Embedded Systems it is standard to use a ticketing system, a repository, being able to plan, track, and revert changes. And it is also standard to implement quality measures such as review and verification. ASPICE describes those mentioned aspects and more in the various supporting processes which are relevant to successfully develop electronic control units including embedded system and embedded software development in the automotive environment.

What Can You Learn About the Supporting Process Group in the Embedded Academy E-Learning?

In this course we focus on the processes which are part of the VDA Scope and thus mandatory for more or less every automotive electronics and software project. For the supporting processes this applies to Quality Assurance SUP.1, Configuration Management SUP.8, Problem Resolution Management SUP.9, and Change Request Management SUP.10.

The course is divided into several e-learning units. Each of them covers one process and its work products. At the beginning of each e-learning the respective process group is introduced and you get to know the connections between the different processes. The e-learnings highlight connection between different topics. This is particularly helpful for practical application work when processes and relationships need to be understood.
